ROUND 6 RESULTS — GUNGAHLIN EAGLES VS QUEANBEYAN WHITES
The Eagles had a strong day at The Nest in Round 6, with four wins across the grades against the Queanbeyan Whites at Nicholls Oval on Saturday 16 May. Here’s how every grade finished.
1ST GRADE — EAGLES 29, WHITES 22
The 1st Grade got the job done with a 29–22 win, built on a strong forward performance throughout. Alec Corcoran, Thomas Ciot, Lachlan O’Malley, and Nathan Butt were prominent up front, giving the backs clean ball and consistent go-forward.
Tries came from James Foster, Lipina Ata, Klayton Thorn, and a late Brendan Jimenez finish in the 78th minute that sealed the result. Sam Chapman converted three and added a penalty to finish with a solid contribution from the tee.
2ND GRADE — EAGLES 24, WHITES 29
The 2nd Grade pushed hard but fell five points short, going down 29–24 in a competitive contest. The Eagles fought back in the second half with tries from their number 11 and Wil Thomson, keeping the result in the balance until the final whistle.
Jared Feenan was effective in the forwards and Nick Ashmore and Rory Scott contributed with the boot. A tough loss, but the character shown in the second half gives the group plenty to work with.
3RD GRADE — EAGLES 19, WHITES 38
The 3rd Grade went down 38–19 against the Whites at Nicholls Enclosed 2. Brad Hyland crossed twice and Liam Collett added a third try, with Charlie Carey converting two. Queanbeyan were the stronger side on the day but the Eagles showed enough to take forward into Round 7.
COLTS — EAGLES 31, WHITES 29
A tight two-point win for the Colts in a well-contested match. Five different try scorers — Dominic Jarrett, Noah Hamels, Ben Sawyer, Nathaniel Butler, and Isaac Foster — reflected a balanced team effort. Ashton Tregonning was accurate with the boot, slotting three conversions that made the difference.
Captain Noah Hamels led well and the team showed composure in the closing stages to hold on for the win.
4TH GRADE — EAGLES 24, WHITES 21
Another tight one for the 4th Grade, winning 24–21 in a closely fought contest. Adam Rummery, Epeli Kauvaka (two tries), and Zeal Taiatini did the scoring, with Troy Hughes reliable with the boot throughout. The Eagles defended well in the final stages to hold their three-point lead.
U12s — EAGLES 26, JINDABYNE 61
The U12s faced a strong Jindabyne side in Round 3, going down 61–26. Thomas Stapleton crossed twice, with Tyler Mitchell and Billy Kimpton also scoring. Despite the scoreline, the Eagles kept competing and found the line four times, which is a positive for the group to build on.
LOOKING AHEAD
Four wins from six grades is a solid day’s work for the Eagles. The 1st Grade win on the back of a dominant forward display is particularly encouraging, and the Colts and 4th Grade continue their strong recent form. Round 7 is next.
