Eagles pre-season details confirmed (Seniors)

The Gungahlin Eagles pre-season will kick off on Tuesday the 30th of January, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The club will once again register a team in every single Brumbies region senior competition, meaning five grades of senior men’s teams, one colts (U20) team, and a women’s senior side as well.

The entire 188-strong playing group and all new or interested players from 2017 are encouraged to express their interest in playing by attending pre-season from as early on as possible.

All training sessions will take place at The Nest (Nicholls Enclosed) on Clarrie Hermes Dr every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

Sessions will run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and will involve ball-skills, game-plan, contact training, and fitness.

Preseason is compulsory for players hoping to compete in the premier divisions and is strongly recommended for all other players in 1st-division, 2nd-division, and women’s competitions; due to competition for spots.

First-grade assistant coach Ruadhri Murphy says the foundations of the club are set for more on-field success, so long as the effort is there.

“Considering how strong all teams were last season, especially colts and the thirsty thirds [who went all the way], as well as the numbers we have in every team, I can sense there is going to be plenty of competition for spots,”

“We’ve got a great coaching team who have already planned every session, and the club has been able to purchase some new gear that I’m sure the players will enjoy,”

Murphy has had an extremely impressive 2017 as a coach, having great success both at the Eagles and the Canberra Vikings. He will look to ensure the players are enjoying their rugby, even when fitness is included.

“Pre-season is certainly something that has changed significantly at the Eagles of late, we’re doing everything we can to incorporate ball-skills into the fitness training, and we really want to focus on making the sessions fun,”

“To see over a hundred players down here from the first session last year was a pleasant surprise and I’m sure we’ll see similar numbers again”
