Round 15 produced two standout individual performances from the Gungahlin Eagles. Congratulations to Drew Brndusic, named Men’s Player of the Day, and Makenna Ravouvou, named Women’s Player of the Day after a hat-trick performance in the Eagles’ Premier XVs Territory Cup victory over the Canberra Royals. Two very different performances — both thoroughly deserved.
DREW BRNDUSIC — MEN’S PLAYER OF THE DAY
Drew Brndusic’s Round 15 Player of the Day award recognises a contribution that extended well beyond what he produced on the field — and what he produced on the field was already outstanding.
Starting in 2nd Grade, Drew was a dominant force up front from the first whistle. His scrummaging performance laid the platform for his side throughout the match, giving his team consistent go-forward and winning the set piece battle against the opposition. He backed that up with two well-earned tries — a fitting reward for a player who committed to the hard work and detail every single time he took the field.
But Drew’s contribution to the Eagles doesn’t stop at the final whistle. He is always there to help out off the field, whether that’s behind the BBQ or supporting the club in any way he can. That kind of attitude — giving everything both on and off the field — is what makes a genuine club man.
A fantastic teammate, a committed Eagle, and a thoroughly worthy recipient of this week’s award. Well done Drew.
MAKENNA RAVOUVOU — WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE DAY
In a massive team performance, Makenna Ravouvou still managed to stand out — and that tells you everything you need to know about the quality of her afternoon.
Shifting from the centres to fullback for the Eagles’ Premier XVs Territory Cup defence against the Canberra Royals, Makenna delivered a tactical masterclass in a position she doesn’t regularly play. Given the freedom to roam across the park, she ran exceptional lines that repeatedly broke open the Royals’ defence — finishing with a hat-trick and a hand in most of the twelve tries the Eagles scored.
Her contribution wasn’t limited to attack either. Makenna’s defensive work was relentless throughout, and her whopping left boot provided an important pressure release on multiple occasions when the Eagles needed it most.
In a game full of outstanding performers, Makenna was still the standout. That is how good she was. Well done.
