Round 8 was a big day for the Gungahlin Eagles at Nicholls Oval, with four wins across the grades against the Canberra Royals. On a day full of strong performances, two players stood out above the rest. Congratulations to Thomas Ciot and Eseta Tuipeatau, our Round 8 Players of the Day.
THOMAS CIOT: MEN’S PLAYER OF THE DAY
Starting in 2nd Grade, Tom made his presence felt from the opening kick-off — strong in both attack and defence, and a driving force as the Eagles came from behind to claim a gritty 19–14 win over the Royals.
With that job done, Tom was called from the bench early in the 1st Grade fixture and delivered again. More strong carries, more punishing defence, and another contribution to a convincing 47–19 Eagles win.
Two grades. Two wins.
One big shift. Big day Ciotty, well done.
ESETA TUIPEATAU — WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE DAY
In what has already been an impressive first year at the club, Eseta Tuipeatau took her game to another level on Saturday as the Premier Women ran out dominant 55–12 winners over the Royals.
Eseta showed her versatility across the backline, moving between positions throughout the match without missing a beat. With ball in hand she was dangerous — her speed and footwork creating openings through some sharp runs and quality support play. In defence she put her body on the line consistently against bigger opposition, making tackles count when the team needed it most.
Week by week, Eseta has grown into this Eagles squad. Saturday was a strong statement of how far she has come. Well done Eseta.
