Round 10 this Saturday is a special one at The Nest. Four Eagles are reaching significant milestones this weekend — three players hitting 50 grade games and one reaching an extraordinary 100. Please join us in congratulating Nick Ashmore, Fraser Weller, Thomas Ferguson, and Vinnie Palencia.
NICK ASHMORE — 50 CLUB GAMES
Since joining the Eagles in early 2024, Nick Ashmore has fully embraced everything the Gungahlin Eagles are about. He is the ultimate team man — always available, always willing to cover wherever the team needs him, and no stranger to backing up and playing multiple games in a single Saturday.
On the field, Nick brings a complete package to every backline he steps into. A powerful carry, solid defence, and a significant kicking game make him a consistent and reliable performer. His versatility across the inside backs means coaches can rely on him in multiple roles, and he delivers in each of them.
Fifty games reflects the trust the club has in Nick — and the trust he has placed in the club.
FRASER WELLER — 50 CLUB GAMES
Fraser Weller came through the Daramalan College and Eagles Colts pathway and has earned every one of his 50 grade games through consistent effort, energy, and commitment to the 3rd Grade side over the last two seasons.
A crafty halfback, Fraser runs the game with a combination of enthusiasm and composure that is rare in a player his age. His communication directs the team around the park, his pass is consistent under pressure, and he brings a real edge with his quick tap play that keeps opposition defences guessing.
Fifty games into his grade career and Fraser Weller is still very much on the way up.
THOMAS FERGUSON — 50 CLUB GAMES
A kid from the bush looking to make his mark in the big smoke, Thomas Ferguson has done exactly that. In a short time at the Nest, Fergo has quickly become an absolute club favourite and a proud graduate of the Eagles Colts program.
What makes his 50 games particularly impressive is the range of grades he has played across — including 1st Grade — showing a level of adaptability and determination that speaks volumes about his character. An exciting outside back who leads from the front and brings unmatched energy every time he takes the field, Fergo is exactly the kind of player who makes a squad better just by being in it.
VINNIE PALENCIA — 100 CLUB GAMES
One hundred games. For Vinnie Palencia, that number tells only part of the story.
An Eagles junior through and through, Vinnie has given more to this club than most people will ever know. Over the years he has volunteered as a junior coach, served as ground announcer, taken on the role of club captain, and played wherever the team has needed him — across almost every position on the field. That combination of on-field versatility and off-field dedication is the mark of a true club person.
On match day, Vinnie brings an energy that is contagious. He carries the ball hard, throws himself into chop tackles against players much bigger than him, and does it all with a smile on his face and a genuine love for the game. That attitude lifts everyone around him.
One hundred games in the red and black is an achievement the whole Eagles family is proud of. Go well legend.
