The Gungahlin Eagles Rugby Union Club women’s side have secured the BentSpoke Brewing Co Premier 15s Minor Premiership after an outstanding 2026 campaign.
With 12 matches played, the Eagles have recorded an exceptional 11 wins and just one loss, earning 54 competition points and finishing 18 points clear of their closest rivals, the Tuggeranong Vikings.
The numbers behind the campaign are remarkable. Gungahlin has posted a huge +254 points differential and collected 10 bonus points, highlighting the side’s consistency, attacking ambition and ability to perform strongly across the full 70 minutes.
The Eagles’ results have included several emphatic victories, including an 84–10 win over Canberra Royals, a 61–10 victory against Western District Lions, and a dominant 26–0 result over Tuggeranong Vikings.
Those results form part of a season in which the Eagles have won more than 90 per cent of their matches. Their only defeat came against the Vikings on 24 April, when Gungahlin went down 22–12 under lights.
Since then, the Eagles have shown their ability to respond under pressure and find a way against their closest rivals. They secured a tight 24–17 win over Tuggeranong on 4 July, before producing a powerful defensive performance to shut out the Vikings 26–0 on 18 July.
Now, the two sides will meet again when the Eagles face Tuggeranong in a Qualifying Final on Saturday, 15 August.
With a place in the 29 August Grand Final up for grabs, the Eagles will be looking to carry the confidence of their minor-premiership campaign into the opening week of the finals.
The minor premiership is a tremendous reward for the players, coaches, volunteers and supporters who have helped establish such a strong women’s program at the Eagles. But the team knows the biggest challenge—and the biggest opportunity—lies ahead.
