O’Byrne re-elected as Eagles President

The Eagles 53rd Annual General Meeting wrapped up with a tremendous result seeing Eoghan O’Byrne run unopposed for the club presidency.

It was made clear by members in attendance that there is complete satisfaction and confidence in the club’s leadership and direction.

Eoghan says he’s honoured to have the confidence of the board and committee to continue leading the Eagles.

“The last three years as President have been challenging at times but I have to say there is great reward in being involved with this club. I believe that is the case for everyone here at the Eagles,” O’Byrne said.

“I’m grateful to have the club’s support and I consider myself lucky to work with an amazing list of individuals who make the club what it is. When we look back on how far we’ve come both on and off the field you can’t help but get excited for what the future holds”.

O’Byrne was elected Club President in October 2016, taking the reigns in time for the club’s 50th-anniversary celebrations of 2017. Since then, participation and sponsorship have seen an increase, which has been reflected in on-field performance.

When asked what the Eagles volunteers and players can expect to see in the near future, Eoghan reiterated what his priorities will continue to be.

“First and foremost we need to ensure our players are having a positive experience at the Eagles. We’re always trying to deliver high-performance coaching and facilities, as well as facilitating a well organised social component to the rugby experience” he said.

“Another priority is the longevity and financial viability of the Gungahlin Eagles. We’re planning for the long-term when it comes to our home at Nicholls oval, and it’s imperative we all continue to attract and service our sponsors who allow us to do what we do.”

Eoghan will chair the next Eagles Board meeting in December which will be the catalyst for significant announcements about the 2020 season for the Eagles.
