Eagles’ legends reunite to coach 2nd Grade in 2019
Eagles 1991 2nd Grade premiership-winning duo, Glenn Carey and Tim Davis, will reunite as the 2019 coaches of 2nd Grade.
With almost 400 games in the red and black between them, Glenn Carey (176 games) and Tim Davis (221 games) will look to steer Gungahlin’s second Grade side to glory in 2019.
The pair have played rugby together since under 13’s and have a wealth of experience to pass onto the Eagles rising players.
Glenn has coached 2nd Grade for the last four years and he believes that the 2nd Grade side is the backbone of every Rugby club.
“The last few years 2nd Grade has competed strongly against all the top teams throughout the season, but unfortunately failed to win those crucial moments in games,” Carey said.
“My initial goal for 2019 is bringing together a group of players that want to work hard, play for each other, enjoy their footy and believe in themselves and their teammates.”
“Making the Semi-finals should be a minimum for us in 2019, no excuses.”
Glenn was the Eagles 1999 1st Grade best and Fairest winner and played a major role in the Red & Black’s back to back 2nd Grade premierships in 1990 and 1991.
“As a player, I loved the freedom of playing 2nd grade footy, and I try to instil that in the players,” Carey said.
“This club has been a massive part of my life for almost 30 years.
“It has given me many memories, friendships and the opportunity to play alongside the legends of the red and black.”
Life member, Tim Davis epitomises what it means to be an Eagle.
He was part of Gungahlin’s 2003 1st Grade premiership winning side, has experience as the 1st-grade head coach, has performed every role in the club including currently sitting on the board, and is again chancing his hand as a coach.
“I am very proud to be back on the Eagles coaching roster for 2019 and to assist Glenny Carey,” Davis said.
“I hope that I can bring some experience to the team along with some old school coaching techniques.”
Expect to see big things from these two and the mighty Gungahlin 2nd Grade side in 2019.
