Club Captains Announced
Gungahlin Eagles President Eoghan O’Byrne is thrilled to announce the club captains for the 2018 season will be Mitchell Ward and Christopher Grierson.
Former club captains Ben McGee and Connor O’Byrne assisted in the selection process, now that they are unable to continue in the role.
Both Mitch and Chris are deserving of their selection, having both received the prestigious Eagles Most Valuable Player award in recent years.
The role is intended to bridge the gap between the club committee and the playing group, as well as be the representatives of the playing group as a whole.
They’ll also be working alongside the social committee to continue delivering enjoyable events throughout the year.
Mitch says he’s looking forward to getting started in his new role and has the camaraderie of the playing group atop of his priority list.
Ward says “It’s a real honor to be offered the position of club captain in 2018. As a kid growing up watching the Eagles and as an adult playing for them, it’s a real privilege to be able to take on more of a leadership role within the club.”
Mitch added “I’m excited to look to continue to build on a successful 2017 season and with the abundance of talent, exciting ideas and fantastic club culture, I’m sure 2018 will bring even more silverware.”
Chris has been a strong component throughout the grades for many years, was pleasantly surprised to be selected.
“To be honest, it was a shock to be asked, especially at a time when the club has so many great people to call upon. I love this club. It’s given me so much joy and lots of opportunities. I’m honored and humbled to take on this role.” Grierson said.
“What I’m most looking forward to is being able to build on the hard work that has seen our club become the biggest and most community-oriented; as well as seeing us become a dominant force across all our grades,” he added.
First up on the boys agenda is the annual Eagles family Christmas Party which will take place on the 9th of December.
