It was a tough but exciting day out at ANU Oval against the Uni-Norths Owls, with the Eagles showing plenty of fight across all grades. Five of our six sides came away with wins or a draw, making it a strong overall performance from the club – but the highlight of the day was undoubtedly 1st Grade, who pushed the Owls right to the final whistle before falling just short, 36–41 in a thriller.
The results across the grades were as follows: Womens claimed a hard-fought 24–22 victory, 2nd Grade ran out convincing 43–24 winners, Colts were sharp in a 28–19 win, 3rd Grade put on a dominant display to win 40–20, and 4th Grade battled to a 26–26 draw. A massive effort from every player who pulled on the gold and red this weekend.
A special congratulations goes to our four 1st Grade debutants, who all represented the club with pride: Daniel Shaw (#642), Denzel Veikune (#643), Ashton Tregonning (#644), and Isaac Foster (#645). Welcome to the Eagles family – here’s to many more games in the first grade jersey.
Congrats also to Sam Hyland and Joey Chapman-Freedman on reaching 100 club games.
The Eagles are back at it next week for Round 3, taking on the Tuggeranong Vikings. Come down to The Nest and get behind the boys and girls — it’s going to be a great one. Go Eagles!
