2024 Player Expectations

The club’s leadership group voluntarily brainstormed a set of expectations for players to follow, they’ve been refined and defined by the club captains.

These are the 10 expectations of an Eagles player:

1. Know the values (and what they mean)
2. Turn up
3. Leave your ego at the door
4. Lead by example
5. Wear the right kit
6. Help those who help us
7. Know our sponsors and favour them
8. Know the club’s history
9. Look after the gear and facilities
10. Celebrate everything and anything

1. Know the values (and what they mean)

We want to be a welcoming club with a positive atmosphere. When you arrive at the Eagles you should feel valued and see a group of individuals that live by our four core pillars.

2. Turn up

A winning culture comes from EVERYONE being present and being an active contributor. This includes training, game day and social events. We understand it’s not always possible, but if everyone makes the extra effort, it’s a better place to be.

3. Leave your ego at the door

Approach, and be approachable. We are all equals here.

4. Lead by example

Keep putting your hand up to take on the hard job. Whether that be on the field putting your body on the line, or off the field lightening someone else’s load on gameday or at events.

5. Wear the right kit

When we turn up to the ground, we wear our club polo.
When we warmup, we wear our training shirts.
When we play, we wear the jersey, our sponsored playing shorts and black/red socks.
After the game, especially at the post match function, we wear our dress shirt.

If it’s cold, chuck something over the top – that’s cool.

6. Help those who help us

It’s never too late to formally introduce yourself to our friendly volunteers. We should ensure they feel valued and look to help them where possible.

7. Know our sponsors and favour them

They are all listed right here on our website. They put our jerseys on our back and ensure we have maintained facilities, new equipment and quality coaching.

8. Get to know the club’s history

It’s a long proud history, and it’s our turn to take the club forward. It’s our responsibility to honour the past, own the present, and prepare for the future.

You can read all about the history of the Gungahlin Eagles here.

9. Look after the gear and facilities

Simple, really. Help with set up, look after the gear, help with pack up.

10. Celebrate everything and anything

Get around each other on and off the field, celebrate each other’s success, and know the song.
