Eagles on a role in Div 2 competition

The Braidwood Redbacks ventured out of the web and found themselves in the Eagles nest. Despite the best efforts of Barry Springfellow to delay things to come with an untied shoelace, the boys were ready to soar.

Despite a team reshuffle with some key figures missing from the reputable Baldies pack, all the boys stepped up no matter what position they found themselves in. A strong step by Jacob Bamford kicked off the half, scoring early points for the Baldies. This was followed up by a pin-point kick from Justin Dariol to put Braidwood deep into their half. Strong running from the backs and quick passing saw the Baldies escape the Redback’s web, with Jay Bartholomew crossing the try line in the corner.

With the backs shining, the front row wanted to join the action, with Ben Stuart crashing over the try line, bringing up the third try of the game. With tries up for grab, Luke Shaw finished the first half with two more tries. The flurry of points continued with superb kicking once again from Sam Richards, slotting conversion after conversion from all over the park.

The second half saw Braidwood starting to click together and be more competitive against the renowned Baldies scrum. Clear that Braidwood were not going to go down without a fight, Nick Hutchinson continued the charge with strong running and good support over the ball to maintain possession and gain good field position.

Free-flowing rugby saw three second half tries, one to the points man Sam Richards, one to the ever so consistent Ollie Kwong, and one to the newest member of the Baldies family Anthony Bell.

A reduced bench saw the boys having to dig deep to keep Braidwood to nil. Despite being camped on their try line for a solid 10 minutes at the end of the game, a try saving effort from Jack Heffernan showed the determination of the whole team to keep Braidwood from getting over the line.

The final whistle signalled the best win for the Baldies so far, with a 52-0 score line. The Baldies now having back-to-back wins, and an all-important bonus point, setting themselves up for a third win against ADFA next week.
